Four Cat-like Moods (1997) Middle School level - This four movement work is programmatic. The first movement, "Contemplation" Click to listen reflects a cat intently staring out the window and uses recurring motives and even phrasing and dynamics. "Contentment" Click to listen uses a half note motive to represent purring and lyricism to reflect serenity. "Frivolity" Click to listen uses a step-wise sixteenth note motive and staccato passages to give the movement a playful quality. Double Bass Duet or Double Bass with Another String Instrument
Little Suite (2001) Elementary/Middle School level - These duets were written for the composer's niece who is a violin teacher. They have been adapted so that either part can be played by any string instrument. They are designed so that the first part is playable by a student in the early stages of development and the second part is playable by a more advanced student or the teacher. The five movements may be performed as a set or individually. The examples are with the violin sound. Little Serenade Click to listen has some easy meter changes. Little Waltz Click to listen makes use of a counter melody and is in arch form. Little Dance Click to listen uses some easy double stops, canon and imitation. Little Lullaby Click to listen is in 6/8 and uses some pizzicato. Little March Click to listen has several themes separated by fanfare interludes. Holiday Etudes (1996) - Middle School Level - A transcription for all instruments of a set of intermediate tuba etudes depicting 28 various holidays throughout the year. These etudes received first prize in the Tuba Universal Brotherhood Association's 1996 Composition Competition. The etudes are published in duet form in order for them to be used as either an etude book and/or a duet. The second part is designed to be playable by the teacher or a more advanced student. There is a piano accompaniment book designed to accompany either the etude or duet.
